Eoin Morgan, who led England to the final of the Carlton Mid Tri-series final after they defeated India by three wickets in a chase that had its own twists and turns, has insisted that he had the confidence that his team would cross the finish line. England chased down a 201-run target set by India at the Western Australia cricket Association (WACA) ground in Perth with three wickets and 19 balls to spare.

England were stuttering at 66 for five at one stage as the WACA pitch made it difficult for batsmen to judge the bounce. A 125-run partnership for the sixth-wicket between James Taylor and Jos Buttler got them close to the target.

"I always had a lot of confidence in the fact that if guys got themselves in that they would take on responsibility," England captain said after match. "It's an area we have improved on over the last six or so months and the guys showed it tonight. They were ruthless when they got in, Jos and James were particularly outstanding."

"We had a bad run before this tour but now we're winning games. Winning on Sunday would be huge," said Morgan.

James Taylor, who scored 82 off 122 balls was adjudged Man of the Match but it was his partner Jos Buttler who drew special praise from Morgan. "He is [a talent], I think there's a lot more to come," Morgan said. "We've certainly seen a lot of him in country cricket and in the nets you get to see his full repertoire which is great to see and his talent is up there with anybody else in the world."

Taylor, on the other hand, stressed that for him it was always team first. "In my eyes I'm always needing to prove a point and secure my spot but first and foremost it was so nice to contribute a match-winning score and I was delighted [to do so]," he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"Unfortunately I fell before the finishing line but to get the side over the line was really pleasing."
