Four college students attempted to attack the pitch at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium in Rajkot on Friday (April 22) evening. The youngsters overcame security and entered the ground with weapons to dig the pitch before the police, on being informed, entered the venue and arrested them.

There are contrasting narrations as to what their real purpose was. One states that they were agitating against the wastage of water during cricket matches and the other story is about them fighting for SC/ST reservations. A case was lodged against them by groundsman Bharatbhai Bhikha Khichadiya and they were arrested by the Padadadri Police.

Niranjan Shah, secretary of SCA, says that it was led by a local party and they were attempting to do so to protest the use of water in preparing the pitches. "This is going overboard now. Every day, there is some new agitation that is taking place and cricket is becoming its target," Shah said.

Security has been beefed up around the stadium following the incident.
