The Sydney derby ended in a stalemate after rains forced Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers to share a point each.
Rain plays spoilsport in Sydney derby
Opting to bat, Thunder were reeling at 53/4 inside eight overs before a superb 70-run partnership between Alex Ross and Daniel Sams resurrected the innings. They looked like getting more than the 151/7 they did, but Sixers were on point in the final four overs and conceded only 28 runs.
Alex Ross top-scored with 44 off 39 whereas Jack Edwards finished with three wickets and Jackson Bird returned two scalps, including the wicket of Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
Chasing a middling target, Sixers lost Josh Philippe caught-and-bowled to Chris Green early, with James Vince and Kurtis Patterson looking to rebuild when the rains arrived. Sixers, at 34/1 after four overs, were ahead on the DLS score but a minimum of five overs were needed in the second innings to constitute a game.
Unfortunately, the rains didn't relent and the game had to be abandoned midway.
Brief Scores: Sydney Thunder 151/7 (Ross 44; Edwards 3-24) vs Sydney Sixers 34/1 in 4 overs - No result.
