Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Pravin Tambe was reportedly approached by a Mumbai player, who is said to have played alongside Tambe in the Ranji trophy, to help fix matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Hindustan Times reported that it has learnt from a reliable source that it was the 43-year-old who was approached.

During the first week of IPL this year, news had emerged that a Mumbai-based Rajasthan Royals player was asked by one of his Ranji team-mates if he would be interested in fixing a game (or a part of it) in return for money. The player who made the offer, apparently, does not represent any team in IPL. The player refused the offer and reported the approach to a senior official in the franchise, who in turn alerted the IPL Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCU). Tambe, according to the report, is said to be the player who was approached during IPL, but neither BCCI or the player himself has confirmed the news.

Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed in a release that it knew about the incident, although it did not name the player in question. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur confirmed that the player had reported the incident to the ACSU. "A player was approached and he immediately intimated BCCI anti-corruption unit. Glad that BCCI education policy [is] showing positive results. Players are alert and they know what is to be done due to our regular education efforts," Thakur said.
