Sri Lanka in Australia, 2012 - 13

Sri Lanka ended their tour Down Under with a thrilling 2 run win off the last ball of the match in the 2nd T20I against Australia at the MCG. The visitors wrapped up the series 2-0.

Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera held their nerve and powered Sri Lanka to a comfortable 5 wicket win (with 7 balls to spare) in the first T20I against Australia in Sydney. David Warner starred for the hosts with a majestic 90 off just 62 deliveries.

Marsh was rewarded with the call up after he finished as the top scorer (412 runs) in the recently concluded Big Bash League. He scored 412 runs. Aaron Finch, who won the man of the series in BBL, was also rewarded with a place in the side.

Phillip Hughes scored his 2nd ton of the series and helped Australia beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs in the fifth and final ODI in Hobart, thereby enabling the hosts to level the 5 match series at 2-2.

With a washout at Sydney and a couple of loses already in the 5-match ODI series, hosts Australia go into the final game v Sri Lanka at Hobart, not just desperately to win, but also to avoid another humiliating moment in the cricketing history.

Rain played spoilsport and forced the 4th ODI between Australia and Sri Lanka at Sydney to be called off. Chasing a competitive 222, the visitors had moved to 14/0 in the 4th over before rain halted play at the SCG.

Sri Lanka will hope to use the momentum generated from their thumping win in the 2nd ODI to get another one over the hosts and take a vital lead. Australia will hope that the inclusion of regular players will prove to be a shot in the arm for their team.

Michael Clarke has come out in full support and defended the widely criticized rotation policy of the Australians. Clarke will make a return to the side for the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka in Brisbane on Friday after being rested for the first two ODIs nursing his hamstring.
