12th Feb 2003:Rusty India overcome Netherlands fright

Having missed out on the 1999 edition, the Netherlands qualified for the 2003 World Cup, held across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. They announced themselves at the world stage with a superb performance against mighty India, with only the lack of top-flight exposure preventing them from beating the 1983 champions at Paarl.

India batted first and were never at ease against a varied bowling attack - Sachin Tendulkar made 52, Dinesh Mongia made 42, but the rest of the batters floundered as they were bowled out for a meagre 204 in the 49th over. Tim de Leede was the wrecker-in-chief, finishing with 4 for 35, his victims included Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Daan van Bunge anchored the chase with a 105-ball 62, but Javagal Srinath (4 for 30) and Anil Kumble (4 for 32) sliced through the batting line-up as the Dutch were bundled out for 136.

9th Mar, 2011: Yuvraj Singh's all-round performance sinks Netherlands

The Dutch side lost by 5 wickets against hosts India in the 2011 World Cup league game. Batting first Netherlands could only muster 189 on the board. Skipper Peter Borren top-scored with 38 but most of the other batters failed to convert their starts. Zaheer Khan picked up 3 wickets, Chawla picked up 2 wickets and Yuvraj chipped in with 2 wickets.

India had their share of batting issues as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yusuf Pathan and Gautam Gambhir got starts but failed to make it count. In the end it was a 52-run partnership between Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni for the fifth wicket which clinched the win for India. Pieter Seelar starred with the ball and picked up 3 wickets in his 10 over spell. However, Yuvraj scored a fifty that helped them to overcome the minor hiccups. This was the second meeting for the sides in World Cups after their first meeting in 2003.
